BISSA is proud to announce details of its annual dinner. The dinner will be held at the same venue as last year, the wonderful 'Lakeside Restaurant and Bar' at the Ponderosa Therapeutic Centre, Heckmondike. The date for your diary is Friday 11th June 2010 with the evening starting from 19:30.

Speaker for the evening is Roy Dickinson, a proud Loiner, Roy supposedly asked Leeds for a trial when he was 12 before becoming a 17 year old debutant in 1974. A year later he was starring in a memorable, against the odds, Premiership Final victory over St Helens as part of one of the youngest front rows ever put out by the club in a major game. Never anything other than totally committed, he appeared in six major Finals for his hometown club. Roy made 303 appearances for Leeds and scored 64 points.

Karl Kirkpatrick is the compere for the evening, Karl controversially quit Rugby League in 2007. He was a referee at the highest level for 14 years and has controlled both Challenge Cup and Super League Grand Finals. He is still a well known face in the game and has been involved with the Steve Prescot Foundation and numerous players testimonials and junior rugby.

Tickets are priced at £30pp or a table of 10 for £275, no increase on last years prices.

Driving up the long & winding road to an unknown destination on a stormy May evening must have seemed for Batley Bulldogs supporters akin to driving up to Whitehaven to face the prospect of an exhausting 80 minute endurance test.

How wrong they were. 

The fifth annual BISSA sports dinner was held at Shaw Cross Young People’s Club.

John Boyd began proceedings with his inimitable witty comments, followed by a true Batley welcome to all by Colin Bottomley, BISSA Chairman. Colin acknowledged the work of the committee, with particular reference to ‘Freeman, Hardy & Willis’ (AKA Richard, Kieran & Richard) for their efforts in organizing the dinner. He mentioned the various initiatives that were BISSA’s current income streams, and BISSA members were thanked for their continued support....

HONOURS: England full and Under-23 international. First Division championship medal (1968), Second Division (1966), FA Cup (1969), Football League Cup (1970).

1959: Signed apprentice terms for Swindon Town where he played 218 matches on the wing.

1965: He was the first player brought to Maine Road by Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison, made his debut at Middlesbrough in August.

1966: He was a key figure in the City team that won the Second Division title.

1969: Helped Manchester City beat Leicester 1-0 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

1970: Missed European Cup Winners Cup Final because of injury but was awarded a medal.

1975: Sold to Burnley by Tony Book after 355 appearances.

1976: Free transfer to Blackpool.

1977: Free transfer to Stockport County.

1978-79: Stockport County Player/manager. He resigned October 10, 1979.

1980: Free transfer to Mossley Town but only played one game.

1981: retired.

BISSA are pleased to announce that the ANNUAL SPORTSMANS DINNER 2008 will be held at the SHAW CROSS BOYS CLUB on FRIDAY the 7th MARCH 2008. It will be 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

MC will be the superb Mr. John Boyd, Guest Speaker will be Mr. Mike Summerbee of Man City and England fame.

Tickets are available now at  a cost of £30, includes full 3 course dinner and events during the evening, including auction and 50/50 draw.

Following the previous three very succesful sports dinners, we are now in a position to announce that the fourth BISSA sports dinner will be held on Friday 2nd March at Blenheim House, Batley Field Hill, Batley.

The MC for the evening is radio presenter John Boyd and he will also be the auctioneer. The guest speaker will be John Kear of Wakefield fame. A number of Bulldog players and coaching staff will also attend the dinner. Other events during the evening include a 50/50 draw. It should prove to be a good night all round and there will be something for everyone.
